I spent four years learning how to stand out and at the beginning, it wasn't easy. It was painful, it was long, and I must have applied to more than 200 jobs resulting in no more than five interviews the first year. Burnout set in as did my resentment for the field I desperately wanted to break into.
I realized I needed to do things differently. I needed to get to know myself better so I could craft my elevator pitch, learn how to bring people inside, and see the potential I had inside. I needed to look inwardly to shine outwardly.
I also realized I couldn’t go it alone. I hired a career coach which boosted my confidence, helped me get further into the interview process, and landed my first ideal job, with a salary that actually met my expectations. That first job was a stepping stone to the next better job six months later after I dialed in on improving the quality of my candidate profile. I found a better fit in an industry I was excited about, alongside a team I admired, making a salary I was proud of, all while doing work I was madly passionate about.
Amazing right? I just wish it hadn’t taken me four years!!!!!! If only I had asked for help sooner!!!!
